• Parrots grow new feathers: Feathers eventually get worn and ragged. When a parrot’s feathers wear out, new ones grow in to replace the old and worn out feathers. This process is called molting. Parrots molt over a period of time instead of all at once.
• Some parrots are brightly colored: Most parrots are covered in brightly colored feathers made up of greens, blues, reds, and yellows. Some parrots are not brightly colored. They can be white, grey, black, or brown with a splash of color, such as the African grey parrot, the kea, the kakapo, and many of the cockatoos.
