Crocodile Facts For Kids Ages 6-8

In the Clouducated Kids Nonfiction Book, Crocodile Facts For Kids, you will learn many interesting facts about crocodiles.

Crocodiles and alligators belong to a group of animals called reptiles. They belong to a group within the reptile group, called Crocodilia. Crocodiles have lived on Earth since the Dinosaur Age! That is over 200 million years ago!

Some crocodiles live in freshwater, others live in saltwater, and some live in both. Crocodiles are excellent swimmers. Their bodies are long with flat muscular tails and webbed feet.  they use their powerful tails to propel themselves forward. Crocodiles breathe through lungs like humans, so they must hold their breath underwater. They usually stay underwater for 15 minutes or less, but they can stay under for much longer.

Crocodiles are stalk and ambush predators. They hunt by stalking or sneaking up on their prey. With eyes, ears, and nose above the surface of the water, they quietly float in the water. The rest of the body is hidden just below the surface. They will attack any animal that comes close to the water to drink. Leaping out of the water, they snap up their prey with their strong muscular jaws. Then they drag the prey into the water and drown it. Crocodiles may also hunt by staying perfectly still in the water. Their rough, scaly skin looks like the bark on a floating log. When an animal come close by, they snap up the prey with their powerful jaws and eat it!
